Highlights

The Unilever Sustainable Living Plan (USLP) sets out to decouple our growth from our environmental footprint while increasing our positive social impact. Launched in 2010, it is creating sustainable growth through our purpose-led brands, cutting business costs, reducing risk and helping us to build trust.

Unilever Global Target:


By 2030, Unilever's goal is to halve the environmental footprint of the making and use of its products as it grows its business.

Greenhouse gases

Unilever global target: Halve the greenhouse gas impact of Unilever's product across the lifecycle by 2030.

HUL progress:

reduction in CO2 emissions (kg / tonne of production) in HUL's manufacturing operations over 2008 baseline.

Water use

Unilever global target: By 2020, water abstraction by Unilever's global factory network will be at or below 2008 baseline despite significantly higher volumes.

Waste

Unilever global target: By 2020, total waste sent for disposal globally, will be at or below 2008 baseline despite significantly higher volumes.

Sustainable sourcing

Unilever global target: By 2020, Unilever will source 100% of its agricultural raw materials sustainably.

of tea, in India is sourced for Unilever's brands is from sustainable sources.

Reusable, Recyclable or Compostable Plastic

Unilever has made a commitment to ensure that 100% of our plastic packaging will be reusable, recyclable or compostable by 2025. We are committed to halve our use of virgin plastic, by reducing our absolute use of plastic packaging by more than 1,00,000 tonnes and accelerating the use of recycled plastic. We will also help collect and process more plastic packaging than we sell.

In 2019, we arranged for environment-friendly disposal of over 39,000 tonnes of post consumer use plastic waste. This has been done with the help of collection and disposal partners in more than 50 cities across India.

Hindustan Unilever
Foundation

Hindustan Unilever Foundation (HUF) is a not-for-profit company that acts as a vehicle to anchor water management related community development and sustainability initiatives of Hindustan Unilever Limited. Since 2010, HUF has supported grassroots interventions in 53 districts with 23 NGO partners across 4,300+ villages in India.

In 2019, the cumulative and collective achievements delivered through partnered programmes of HUF include:

Opportunities for women

Unilever global target: Empower 5 million women by 2020.

HUL progress:

Nearly 1,20,000 Shakti Entrepreneurs

HUL’s Shakti Programme has empowered nearly 1,20,000 Shakti Entrepreneurs across 18 states. Project Shakti aims to financially empower and provide livelihood opportunities to women in rural India by training them to be distributors for HUL’s products.

Inclusive business

Unilever global target: Positively impact 5.5 million people by 2020, by enhancing their livelihoods.

HUL progress:

4.5 Million

people positively impacted. Our community development initiative, 'Prabhat' has directly benefitted over 4.5 million people across 12 states and 2 union territories in India through partnerships with over 20 NGOs.

Project Prabhat

HUL has directly benefitted over 4.5 million people across 12 states and 2 union territories in India through partnerships with over 20 NGOs. With 19 livelihood centres across the country, Prabhat has provided enrolment to 75,754 people, certified 65,970 people and created jobs for over 41,841 people.
